Candidates model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. (PSC 4.2/ISTE 5b)
I created the copyright integrity presentation to further my knowledge about fair uses, copyright infringements, and Creative Commons. This assignment details what copyrights and fair uses are and the differences between the two. It also overviews popular forms of digital tools and video streaming platforms such as Netflix, Vimeo, and YouTube. All of these video streaming platforms are frequently used in classrooms throughout America, including my own, so I found this assignment to be particularly helpful to me to ensure that I, as a teacher, am not infringing on any copyright rules and regulations unknowingly. It also helped prepare me to be a leader of technology utilization by being able to share my knowledge with my colleagues regarding copyright infringement and their uses. Today's classrooms are full of technology integrations, with video streaming being one of the most popular. I believe as a future leader of instructional technology; it is important for me to understand how to properly utilize digital tools and resources in classrooms to ensure that academic integrity is upheld. This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 4.2 because throughout this presentation, I overviewed various scenarios where popular digital tools and resources are used by both teachers and leaders in school setting. Each scenario details how the tool will be implemented, and I explained what steps need to be taken to ensure that academic integrity is upheld by following copyright infringement guidelines. By understanding the laws regarding video streaming and utilization of various digital tools, I will be able to help keep myself, my teachers, and the leaders in my school uphold digital integrity and help everyone to abide by copyright rules by understanding them thoroughly by sharing this information in a manner that people can understand and follow. Throughout their creation of this presentation, I learned the differences between copyright, fair uses, and Creative Commons. I learned how to request and gain access from various platforms that I commonly use in my classroom and know that many of my colleagues use as well. If I were to make any changes to this presentation, I would create a screencast overviewing and highlighting the important key parts of this presentation, mainly those having to do with video streaming as these are popular amongst classrooms in my school. I feel that by doing this, the information would be easier for all of my colleagues to understand and comprehend. As the STEM facilitator at my school and future technology coach, I feel that it is my duty to not only educate myself over copyright rules and guidelines, but to guide my colleagues to these understandings as well to ensure that everyone at my school is legally using all digital tools and platforms and displaying digital integrity. This presentation will help not only myself, but teachers at my school understand and abide by copyright rules, and understand fair uses and Creative Commons. This will promote digital integrity amongst all staff members and create an awareness regarding copyright infringement that they might not have previously had. The impact can be assessed by observing teachers appropriately using digital platforms and tools while abiding by all legalities surrounding the digital resource.
