Reflection:
As my school’s STEM Facilitator and instructor, I find it important to showcase our student’s accomplishments and projects. I facilitate our school’s STEM Webpage and Social Media page. The projects that our students create in their STEM classes support our school’s mission statement, creating and fostering Twenty-First Century thinkers and learners. I display all of our student’s projects on the STEM website along with ISTE and grade level aligned standards, photos of final projects and works in progress, and student video presentations. I posted snapshots and live videos to our social media page to promote interactions with parents, the community, and stakeholders. This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 3.7 because both the website and social media platform allow me to communicate with the community outside of our school. I am able to display our students’ accomplishments and projects and support the school vision statement of creating twenty-first century thinkers and learners amongst our students. Our students also take pride in their work and know that it will be showcased on both of these platforms. This also bridges positive communications with parents and community supporters. The students enjoy viewing their grade levels projects and accomplishments and look forward to completing future projects as they progress through grade levels. By creating and maintaining both the STEM website and social media page, I realized what an important platform social media can be. I learned that organization and presentation is everything and that it is important to display all students and grade levels equally through both platforms. I also learned that it is important to keep both the website and social media current to ensure that all community members are continually keeping up with our progress. To continue making improvements to maintaining these platforms, I would like to create a YouTube channel with student reporters to showcase on both of these platforms and to continue building community and support amongst parents, guardians, and stakeholders. The technology skills the students both gained and refined through this project directly align to the technology improvement plan located within our school’s improvement plan. The impact can be assessed by the student’s products at the conclusion of the project. The impact of the student products should products reflect appropriate implementations of digital tools and resources.
